Welcome to Blue Dog, I’m Kate!
I am a Licensed Social Worker in Colorado. I am local to Colorado Springs and offer in-person and virtual sessions for Colorado clients.
Who I work with
I work with teens and young adults facing mental health struggles while navigating this unique stage of life. Sometimes that means supporting their sobriety and recovery journey along with their mental health.
I also offer parent support sessions because I believe healing and recovery take a village!
How I Work
I come from a relational perspective and use an eclectic approach. In practice, that means we start by building a solid foundation of rapport and trust, then choose approaches that fit your needs rather than fitting you into a single method. I value trauma-informed care, which emphasizes choice and collaboration, so you have a real voice in what works best for you.
My background
My background is in teen dual diagnosis (co-occurring substance use and mental health) residential treatment, where I provided group, individual, and family therapy. That work gave me a deep appreciation for the challenges young people and their parents face in today’s world.
Approaches I Use
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Motivational Interviewing
Solution-Focused Therapy
Strengths-Based Approaches
Behavioral Activation
Craving and impulse control skills
Animal-assisted therapy

Military families welcome! I am an Army Veteran with a deeply personal understanding of the different dynamics that come with military service.
Wilma and her best friend Cowboy, a red heeler, are both AKC-certified therapy dogs, and they join sessions when it’s the right fit. They’re always optional. If dogs aren’t your thing, we’ll simply leave them home.

The Red DogWhy Blue Dog?
When I found Wilma, she was alone and a little feral, but ultimately so loving and fun. She had a tough start to life, but she never gave up or let it show. For almost 10 years, she’s traveled all over the country with me, and wherever I ended up, she was right beside me.
She’s a bit of a character. She’ll bake in a sunny spot for hours, take more naps than I can count, and then surprise everyone with a short burst of ridiculous zoomies. She makes the funniest faces, including a judgmental side-eye that could stop any conversation, and she doesn’t take life too seriously.
What I love most about her is how gentle and calm she is. She doesn’t push or rush. She just shows up and lets you set the pace. That’s how I want therapy to feel, too: steady and warm, with room to rest and room to laugh. Healing is serious work, but it doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time.
